E-mini
E-mini is a registered trademark of the
CME. The 'E' in E-mini stands for Electronic and the 'Mini' signifies that it is smaller than the traditional/original pit-traded future from which it is derived.
Other exchanges have created and trademarked similar types of futures which are also smaller than their traditional counterparts and also electronically traded. The
CBOT has its mini sized futures and
NYMEX has the
miNY.
These smaller electronic futures have, on the most part, become more popular that their pit-traded counterparts and by value traded eclipse them by multiples of up to ten.
