Definition of 'Regular Trading Hours RTH'

RTH stands for Regular Trading Hours.

This is a relatively new term that has more bearing because of side-by-side trading in both pit and electronic markets.

RTH is usually when the pit is open for trading or if the pit no longer trades then it is when the pit used to be open and signifies the most liquid time period in which to trade. For example, for the E-mini S&P500 Futures contract, RTH is from 9:30am to 4:15pm East Coast (New York) time. This corresponds with when the S&P500 Futures are traded in the pit.

Electronic Trading Hours (ETH) run in the electronic contracts overnight and outside of RTH.
