Utilities Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLU)
The XLU is the Utilities Select Sector SPDR Fund (an ETF). It trades on the NYSE under the ticker symbol XLU.
In mid-2007, The XLU was about 3.5% of the S&P500 index.
The fund holds investments in the Utilities Index which include the following industries:
- Electric utilities
- Multi-utilities
- Independent power producers & energy traders
- Gas utilities
Criteria
- Each of the component securities in the Index is a constituent company of the S&P 500 Index.
- Each stock in the S&P 500 Index is allocated to one and only one of the Select Sector Indexes.
- The Index is calculated by the New York Stock Exchange’s Index Services Group using a modified “market capitalization” methodology.
As of December 31, 2009, the Index was comprised of 34 stocks.
