The New York Stock Exchange is commonly known by its acronym NYSE.

It is also nicknamed the "Big Board" and is located at 11 Wall Street in New York, as the name might suggest.

The NYSE is the largest stock exchange in the world by dollar volume and the second largest by number of companies listed. Its share volume was exceeded by that of NASDAQ during the 1990s. The New York Stock Exchange had a global capitalization of $23 trillion in September 2006.

NYSE Euronext was formed by the merger of Archipelago Holdings and Euronext and the NYSE to form the company that operates the NYSE.
