Vehicle Excise Duty (VED)

Vehicle Excise Duty (VED), also known as road tax, is a tax charged on the use of motor vehicles in the United Kingdom. It is collected by Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC) and is used to fund road maintenance and improvements.

VED is charged on a vehicle's CO2 emissions, with higher emissions resulting in a higher tax rate. The current VED rates are as follows:

VED is also charged on vans, trucks, buses, and motorcycles. The rates for these vehicles vary depending on their weight and engine size.

VED is payable annually and is collected by HMRC through the DVLA. You can pay your VED online, by phone, or by post.

If you sell your vehicle, you are no longer liable for VED. However, you must notify HMRC of the sale within 14 days.
