Definition of 'Delinquent Account Credit Card'

A delinquent account credit card is a credit card account that has not been paid on time for a period of time. This can happen for a variety of reasons, such as forgetting to make a payment, not having enough money to make a payment, or being unable to make a payment due to a financial hardship.

When a credit card account becomes delinquent, the card issuer will typically charge a late fee. The late fee is usually a percentage of the amount due, and it can range from 2% to 4%. The card issuer may also start charging interest on the outstanding balance, even if the account was previously interest-free.

If the account remains delinquent for a period of time, the card issuer may send the account to collections. This means that the account will be turned over to a collection agency, which will attempt to collect the debt on behalf of the card issuer. The collection agency may contact you by phone, mail, or email to try to collect the debt.

If you are unable to pay the debt in full, you may be able to work out a payment plan with the collection agency. However, you should be aware that you will likely have to pay interest on the debt, and you may also have to pay collection fees.

If you are unable to make any payments on the debt, the collection agency may sue you. If you are sued and you lose, the court may order you to pay the debt, plus interest, collection fees, and court costs.

It is important to take steps to avoid having your credit card account become delinquent. If you are unable to make a payment on time, contact the card issuer as soon as possible to let them know. You may be able to work out a payment plan or get a temporary extension.

If you are struggling to make your credit card payments, there are a number of resources available to help you. You can contact a credit counseling agency for help with debt management, or you can apply for a debt consolidation loan.
