Definition of 'Construction Spending'

During the first week of the month the Census Bureau at the United States Department of Commerce release the Construction Spending figures. The values released refer to two prior months. For example, January's data is released in the first week of March. This figure can be revised in subsequent months.

Construction Spending shows the level of confidence that businesses have in the economy as they will only invest in new construction if they believe that they economy will allow them to recoup that investment in the years to come.
