Net Foreign Assets (NFA)

Net foreign assets (NFA) are the difference between a country's foreign assets and foreign liabilities. Foreign assets are the value of a country's investments in other countries, while foreign liabilities are the value of other countries' investments in the country. NFA can be positive or negative. A positive NFA means that a country has more foreign assets than foreign liabilities, while a negative NFA means that a country has more foreign liabilities than foreign assets.

A positive NIIP means that a country has a net creditor position, while a negative NIIP means that a country has a net debtor position.

NFA is calculated by adding a country's foreign assets to its foreign liabilities and then subtracting the result from its total assets. Foreign assets include a country's investments in foreign stocks, bonds, and real estate.
