Definition of 'State Street Investor Confidence Index'

On the last or next to last Tuesday of each month, State Street Global Markets releases the State Street Investor Confidence Index. The index relates to the same month in which it is released.

Unlike the Consumer Confidence Index which is an attitude survey, the State Street Investor Confidence Index measures confidence by looking at actual levels of risk in investment portfolios. By looking at the percentage of equities that institutional investors are willing to hold in their portfolios and the changes from month to month this index can be constructed.
