Definition of 'PMI Manufacturing Index Flash'

A "Flash Index" is an index that provides an instantaneous or quick reading of what it is measuring. It is usually compiled the business day immediately after the period it is reporting on hence giving it its name "flash."

The PMI is the Purchasing Managers Index.

This index is based on around 85% of the total PMI survey responses for the preceding month. Its intention is to provide an advanced indication of what the final PMI data will be and capture trend information ahead of the official PMI data release.
