These are the expiration days for (1) Index Futures, (2) Index Options, (3) Stock Options, and (4) Stock Futures. Due to the simultaneous expiration of thes market instruments there is usually an increase in volatility in the market around this time.

Quadruple Witching Hour is the last hour of trading on this day from 3pm to 4pm.
