In Poland over half a million people are repaying CHF denominated mortgage loans, which were popular due to much lower interest rate than in Poland (3-4% range). I talked to a few of them today. When they signed up a loan agreement a couple of years ago, CHF/PLN rate was about 2.4. In recent days it was slightly over 3 and today it's 4.2 with HOD over 5. Imagine their situation now.
Loan agreements are constructed in such a way that even if the bank takes over a real estate which serves as collateral they can still retrieve money from other sources, mainly your salary. With an LTV about 2 it will come true in many cases.

and went right down to the .886 shy by a penny and stopped. I remember a "trader" making a case against fibs a few years ago. Days like today prove the importance of fibs.

I was going to mention that, and a few others, once the market closed. Abandoning the peg, suddenly without notice, is really something else. And dropping rates for deposits to -0.75%. This world keeping going more and more insane by the day. And trust me, it's going to get so much worse we can't even fathom the levels of madness coming at us. The more it unravels, the more 'programs' and actions they will do to save themselves, every last one of which literally guts the Average Joe, just like all those poor mortgage clients... And because all this is so awful, pretty much everyone I know simply won't listen to a word I say, they just cut me off mid-sentence (and some have actually told me to never contact them again. ever). Any hope we might have had to not go through all this (and it was an almost zero hope as it was) is being thrown away by this attitude. But, I'm way too small to make any difference with what's coming...

I just saw that you posted this. Yeah, how often do you see a 'major' currency move 25% in essentially a blink? To use some O'bummer-speak: 'Yeah, we destroyed some folks'.

Their central bank has stopped to keep it artificially low.
