Okay, I have to point out what I said, so here's the original post from 10/1/09:
"Okay, here's my final musing for the day. This is what I'd like to do. It's not something that can happen, it's just a musing for me. Like, I'd love to go to Australia tomorrow, if I could beam over there like in Star Trek. But 28 hours on a plane, nah, I'm not interested.
I see all this stuff and can put all these areas together in real time. In 'the old days' they used to have seminars, and people would come from all over the world. I went to a few in the early days, when they had lots of free presentations and such, and sometimes 1,500 people would show up. I'd talk to people from all over the world and the country who came in for just the seminars. Nowadays few want to travel and everything has to be a webinar or online. You don't get to meet anyone anymore.
So, here's what I wish. Crazy, most people would be wishing for anything but this. I want to get about thirty of the top KT'ers together for about a week. Then, I just do all this stuff all day long, bell to bell, and after the close and in GLOBEX and whatever, real time, and everyone watches and asks tons of questions, and I just explain and show it all. I say the types of things I say in here, watch this area, look at this over here, watch this price action, and we see it all happen in real-time, face to face, and we do endless discussion. I get to meet everyone from all around the world. And how much would I charge for such an event I hear everyone wondering, as the wheels turn in their brains, trying to decide if they might want to do it? Absolutely zero. Free. What do I get out of it, then? The fun of meeting everyone, showing this in real-time with lots of discussion and me and my charts all right there, going wild. No more cumbersome forum or whatever. Just the fun of showing what I think are amazing observations to the crew in detail, for an extended period.
But, it isn't going to happen. First, maybe ten people would say they'd show up, and maybe five would. And almost no one from overseas, which would be a huge part of making it worthwhile for me. Perhaps 50%-60% of my sales are overseas. If everyone came from the U.S. it would defeat the purpose of me actually getting out of my cave and meeting live human beings from diverse backgrounds. It's all just a dream for me that would require even more than Star Trek beaming equipment to pull off. But down inside I'd love to do it, to really just get up on the stage and show what I am doing behind the scenes every day when I make all these posts.
But heck, we had two people make posts in here today, and two yesterday. Sometimes I make a post in a new topic and ten hours later two or three people have read it. It's comical at times. Look at the posts I make in here, and rooms that charge $400 a month and don't know squat have 100, 500, even a 1,000 members. So, if I get firm, rock solid commitments from 60 people in here (because I figure at best only half of those that commit would actually show up) that they will come for a full week, and at least half from overseas, then I will rethink if I might seriously consider this. And please don't e-mail me, if you are serious, start a topic in this forum just for this on your own and everyone can post there. Then we'll all see if we get that 60. If you post in here, which should just be for ES/CL discussion, I will drop the idea in a flash. I need to see people showing me they are participating in here, and can show initiative and follow requests."
Before this could even be something I would consider, I need those sixty commitments, half from overseas. Not a 'Sure, Jim, that would be cool, I'd be interested', but a full, firm commitment that if a date is picked you'd be there, for the full week. And I don't want to have people start to 'chew me down' on how many commitments I'd need. None of this 'Can't you just do it with ten of us, Jim? Five? Oh, please?'. I stated my terms for this being worth more consideration, and I picked those terms for a reason. Now let's see what happens.

Said it before, count me in. Any time, any place - ill be there.
We really need to work something out, is there any way to reach all bookset buyers/members
which have signed up in the last 12/24 months to organise it?
Still dont believe that people are not interested, maybe most of them are not checking for updates
here or at the KT website... (lazy folks...)

Here's the problem, folks. We have to limit this to forum readers. If I put this on the website, then I'll sell a bunch of booksets so people can get a free week with me, which, if I priced that out, might be $5K each, or more. I want people who are showing initiative, not people who do it because they get a free week. If someone buys the books and isn't even motivated enough to show up in the forum, honestly, I don't want them to come. Recall my own motivation for considering this. So, everyone who has bought the books was given a clear opportunity to join in here. I send the invitation to every buyer. So, if someone buys the books and doesn't even check this forum out (and I usually send follow ups inviting them again), then I don't want to chase them and beg them to basically get a free week of mentoring. And if they do join the forum and don't participate, and even don't follow along, should I chase them down and tell them about this potential opportunity? Again, that defeats the purpose.
Note that I mentioned webinars in here and twice in the monthly commentary, which has quite a following. I also spent most of a day putting that webinar page together and updating the menus and so on. In total, I think I got seven affirmatives. I hadn't intended to release the numbers, but what the heck. So, Tim Morge has over a thousand for his free webinars, and I heard 100-200 for his paid (I think it's probably more), and only seven wanted to attend my webinars. No, I am not going to chase and beg people so I can give them an entire week of my life, shoulder the expenses of a conference room, a projector, and so on, all for free. Again, the point here is if it is meant to be for me to seriously consider this then we'll see those sixty firm commitments here. If not, then we won't.

I hear you, but it's still nice to get together and meet the people in person and hang out. Trading is such an isolating venture.

So, here's what I see. This page just got started, so most people aren't reading it every time a new post is done, most have just read it once. The page has 67 reads already. That should translate, I would think, to maybe 50 different people seeing this content so far. That accounts for the handful here checking it multiple times. And so far I see five commitments. At this rate to get the sixty we'd need 600 people to read it let's say, and I don't think I even have 600 in here...

So what if you get 15 people instead of 30? What should matter is the quality of the group not size.

I kind of knew this would become the topic of discussion in here, whereas I was hoping it would just be people making firm commitments...
Here's my reasoning. Sure, we could get six or eight of us, maybe fifteen, and we could all get together, hang out, watch Jim do a lot of live chartwork and find some trades, and we'd have a blast. I agree, sounds like a lot of fun. But, that wasn't what I was trying to do. If we want to forget what I was trying to do, and do something else, we can surely look that over.
Here was my thinking, born out of extreme frustration. Try as I might, I can't get hardly any participation in the forum. So, if I personally trained, in a manner of speaking, at least thirty people, maybe we'd have a crew that was bonded together and saw the value in daily participation. Turn the forum into something really great. Nothing else has worked. I chose thirty because I felt that was the minimum that we'd need to make this forum really have some good participation level.
I know from the mentoring that more than half of the people that fully commit, promise me and say that 'My word is as good as gold, and I'm fully committing, no way I won't follow through' still back out, usually at the last minute. I know they all have fully legitimate reasons, but the fact remains, more than half have left me hanging at the last minute. Imagine if it is just a free get together, how much easier it would be to back out. So, understand that at best 50% of those that promise me on a stack of bibles that they are committed will likely show up. Hence, no matter what numbers I get, I want 2X committed from what I need to show up.
I also want a diverse group. More than half my sales are from overseas. I want a balanced group that can bring something to the forum table, so to speak. I don't want all U.S. people, all from similar backgrounds, and all looking to trade the ES. Even if they aren't all looking to trade the ES, they are still not very diverse. I want some Europeans, some Asians, some Middle Easterners, and although I don't sell a lot in South America (I can't figure that one out, since Scott at HT says he sells a ton down there), some South Americans, and whoever else. I was hoping to create a diverse group with varied backgrounds and trading experiences.
So, I get a handful, and most are mentor students already, and only one from overseas. This is not going to achieve what I was hoping for that motivated me to even bring up such a topic. Now those that were already motivated, those that are already posting, commit to showing up, and no one else. And when we get done with our week of hanging out, the forum will be the same as it is now. I was considering something that I thought might make a big difference going forward, and I can see that it isn't going to happen. So, now what, the half a dozen of us get together and hang out for a week?

I'd commit but I'm not a "top KTer". And it may not be needed now because part of Jim's intent was to get more participation in the forum. The daily discussion, at least, is active now.
As far as commitment goes, maybe he needs to charge $XX and it would only be refundable if you show up. No shows would pay for wasting Jim's time.
