roofer, here's the thing. I can't get the indicators to work for me, period. 'I can't see them in real time.' Same with the bands. You have some great charts there, but I can show hundreds of charts with all the same and the trade doesn't play out. It comes down to what happens for each trader real time. For me, real time, I get slaughtered if I do what you are showing.
I have asked pointed questions about details of this, which I think I need to use it profitably, but they aren't questions you have answered for me. I have done as much work on this as I am willing to do. When I get to say 5,000 hours on something, with all my background, and I can't make it work, I move on to what does work for me. You haven't made the adjusted sets work for you in real time, a concept that I find super easy, and the basis for essentially all my trades.
It isn't a matter of work and having it explained, you just can't see it. I can't see the bands or indicators in real time. It just doesn't work for me. I'm glad you found your way, but like the adjusted sets aren't your way, this isn't my way. I use no indicators and no bands. If I do I get killed. We have discussed this many times before. We use a lot of the same tools, but our approaches are different. I can't do yours, and you can't do mine.
Each trader has to find what works for them, to find how to use the various tools so they can be net profitable. The great thing about this forum is I allow different approaches, different variations, to be shown and discussed so traders can craft their own plan.

The problem for most traders in using trailing stops is not knowing when to adjust the trailing where to adjust the trailing stop and how far the trailing stop should be. So they settle for not trailing but as very clearly Jim showed this will only reduce returns greatly.
It also makes sense that having this greater knowledge and putting in this extra effort in each and every trade would be rewarded. Putting in at least 10,000 hours of chart work will solve this issue to a great degree.
Just like any other profession you have to do the work, put in the time, make observation and look to improve and grow as a trader this should be a never ended quest.
Not using a well-chosen trailing is just an inferior more simplistic way of dealing with a complex issue that's all.

Let me add in right now, I do not want this discussion to devolve to any friction between participants. We always have avoided that in here, and we will do so going forward. I do not want to read the comments from roofer 'Okay, I can see I'm not wanted in here anymore so I'm leaving. I won't be back. Ever. Good luck.' This can not happen. roofer has explained his approach, I have explained mine, I think this is great info for the readers, let's leave it at that. Constructive posts and discussion on this are fine, but we are here to learn and share. That is the goal. Do not make me lock this topic.

And I posted the above before I saw this post. Now what I say goes triple. This all stops now for all concerned. If I have to lock this topic I will be very pissed. If I get pissed that is not good for me, or the forum. Understand, if I think this forum is too much of a pain in my ass, I will close it. If I think it is not doing its job, I will close it. Be forewarned, all.

I have a lot to say about this thread but unfortunately no time... Awesome material here from roofer. It make sense that a traders style and psyche have to fit the trading approach since we all see things differently. That wouldn't negate the concept that there is in fact an absolute best use of the tools....but can we all see it in real time....that in itself is an art
