Definition of 'Jeffrey Schmid'

Jeffrey Schmid is the President of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City. He assumed office on August 21, 2023. He has more than 40 years of experience in banking and banking supervision. Prior to joining the Kansas City Fed, he served as the president and CEO of the Southwestern Graduate School of Banking Foundation at Southern Methodist University's Cox School of Business. He also served as chairman and CEO of Mutual of Omaha Bank.

Schmid began his career as a field examiner in the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation's Kansas City office. He went on to become president and CEO of American National Bank in Omaha, Nebraska, and then chairman and CEO of Mutual of Omaha Bank. At Mutual of Omaha Bank, he led the institution's growth from $700 million to nearly $9 billion in assets.

Schmid is a graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and the Southwestern Graduate School of Banking. He is also a member of the American Bankers Association and the Bank Policy Institute.

As President of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, Schmid is responsible for overseeing the Bank's monetary policy, financial stability, and supervisory functions. He is also a member of the Federal Open Market Committee, which sets monetary policy for the United States.
