I think this is just a fantastic article. If you want to understand me better, read this. If you disagree with this critique of technology and capitalism, I suggest you examine your beliefs in depth, with an open mind. If you still disagree, then I posit that your beliefs are so tied to your needs and your 'ego' that you simply can't accept what is actually going on. Just my two cents.

I wonder if Machiavelli was a trader...
Niccolo Machiavelli:
"Wise men say, and not without reason, that whoever wishes to foresee the future must consult the past; for human events ever resemble those of preceding times. This arises from the fact that they are produced by men who ever have been, and ever will be, animated by the same passions, and thus they necessarily have the same results."

let me say this... a while back someone said we are all passionate here about trading... that is not true.. i am passionate about the roofing life.. i lived it not as a job but as a lifestyle ..a new adventure every day... trading is a brutal boring job that is a total waste of my being that i do in the shortest spurts possible because it is a way to take care of myself....if God granted me my wish to roof until the day i die with the cost being that i had to get rid of my garden, never fish again and never ever trade again i would say ''let it be so''

I also admire Jim and his work ethic, that has brought him success. I know he has worked a tremendous number of hours trading, a grueling task. I marvel at the work ethic of the successful traders who have shared their stories. Simply Amazing, and inspirational.
Good Trading to all,

I guess I have some of the same work ethic....when I worked in editorial on movies, I had stretches where I would go 15 - 20 weeks without a day off and average 80-90 hours a week. Now as a realtor I also work as much as my clients and the situation demands. I have done it out of my love of working hard, and to provide a base for my family...unfortunately it has been a contributing factor in my marriage dying on the vine, as my wife, who also works hard, has issues with success and material goals. I have not had support for who I am, a diligent student, a hard worker, a creative person whether I am doing a deal, trading, renovating an apartment or photographing a landscape. It's tragic and I don't want to bore anyone here with the personal, but as my separation plays out it is like having a health problem of sorts. It also has me deeply focused on moving on and living the life I really want to lead, and my trading in the last few weeks has been unusually sharp, maybe because listening better and being in tune with reality is contributing to my discipline. I am mourning the loss of a long relationship, feeling a sense of relief that I can be true to myself and also feeling the sadness that is a part of loving and losing.

rat,
A am sorry to hear about your personal problems. It looks like trading can take a toll on trades and those around them.
Best Wishes to you and your loved ones.
