I decided to split off my postings of economic links from Jim's Thoughts, so that I can get that topic back to what it was intended to be, a place for me to post trading ideas and thoughts I had that I felt could be of interest to the readers.

This topic is where I will post links to various economic articles, for those that find them interesting. If you want to read (or post) articles about the unfolding debaucle, this is the place to look. If you are a short-term daytrader or swing trader and have zero interest in the economy, you can now just read Jim's Thoughts and not have to wade through this type of dicussion.

At best I think this material only has a direct effect on longer-term plays, the bigger swings that make up the major legs of the bull and bear markets. I follow this stuff for that reason, and because I want to have a handle on things, if that is even possible in this era of lies and deception, so that I can make decisions on life issues.

For example, as I posted in the commentary on the website and discussed with many people well in advance, this was something that wasn't hard to see coming. I saw many people who told me as late as Oct 2007 that 'this thing is about to 'break out' to the upside, and that Dow 20,000, and then much higher, was 'just around the corner' '. The type of articles I am posting discuss the type of information that helped me form the viewpoints I had back then.

If this is far from over, as I suspect, we are in a similar postion now as back then. With the rally that is unfolding right now the talk is the bull is back, the bottom is in, and we are set. I'm not so sure. So, I try to weigh up all the factors and not get too sucked in by the hype. To that end, I will post things here I find interesting.

Sure are a lot of bulls calling the bottom and the start of a new bull, not a bear market rally:

http://www.marketwatch.com/news/story/Six-reasons-I-am-calling/story.aspx?guid=%7BC7D85D3C%2D7008%2D4980%2DAE1E%2D47AD2565FBA7%7D

The most interesting stat, one that I think is not correct, is that if you missed just ten days in the market in the last 109 years, you'd lose two-thirds of the cumulative gains. Two-thirds of all the gains from the last 109 years happened in ten days? I seriously doubt that. Anyway, a good, slanted article that points out some 'facts' to make a point, and leaves out everything that would make a case for the other side, in my opinion. In other words, just about like all the rest. About the only thing I agree with is that the market generally precedes the economic turnaround.

The pundits are 100% on the side that this is a bull, the bottom is in, no doubt whatsoever, nothing to talk about. Cramer is as adamant as I have ever seen him. If we look back at this time and all those pundits were right, it will blow my mind. We will have to rewrite all the classic stock market books that say dumb money never wins, the public is always wrong, bear markets end when no one can stomach the thought of stocks, and so on. If this is it, the dumb money made a fortune, the public kicked butt, and they all did it to the day and point, dead nuts, and they were bullish as all get out when the market was at a new all-time bear market low! It will go down in history, for sure, as the greatest exception to any rule on any topic, in my opinion. Imagine that.

A link for the above video was posted at xTrends, where he asks people to remember it, as he plans to post it again on Sept 2009. Funny, that's about when I am expecting the 'real' bottom to be in myself. It would be kind of cool, and wild, if that does come to pass. A bottom down quite a ways, with everyone pessimistic, and then we just sit around there for awhile and base, then it starts up and no one believes. Now that would be a nice bottom. We'll see, it's amazing what you can do with trillions and trillions in manipulation dollars, and changing the rules, and propaganda...

Well, there are a few people who don't see things as Cramer does. I hate to post this stuff, but for those who are interested (shouldn't we all be, though?), I will. I also hope we can all try to do our part, whatever that is, to not let all this unfold. Here is a guy that is quite interesting:

You'll have to go over the site quite a bit and look some of this stuff over. If he's right, well, Cramer is dead wrong... Make sure you look at the forecasts page, too.

And this guy quoting his work. Make sure you click on all the 'Research related articles' below and skim the highlights of those.

And finally something to tie it all together. This one makes me sick, and scares the sh#@ out of me:

I'd say 'sorry', but it's my forum, this is a separate topic, and I have to do my part. The HR 875 material was sent to me by Joe Ross (of trading fame), in the only non-trading e-mail I've ever got from him. If it's good enough for him to pass along, it's good enough for my forum, too. If you hate this kind of stuff, just go to the trading sections.

What a knucklehead. He gets paid to call tops and bottoms, though. That's his calling and he is making a fool of himself.

Yep, he's laughing all the way to the bank. This is the guy who took thestreet.com public right before the bust and pocketed how many hundreds of millions was it? He just can't seem to get off that gravy train...

Here's a great overview from a highly respected guy about what I was mentioning in my last commentary, and my comments on mark-to-market. It also has a link discussing what I had heard about the banks just swapping toxic assets (or keeping their own, 'restructered').

I forgot, I do have another hero to go with Ron Paul and David Stockman, and that's Nigel Farage. Here's his latest:
