I decided to split off my postings of economic links from Jim's Thoughts, so that I can get that topic back to what it was intended to be, a place for me to post trading ideas and thoughts I had that I felt could be of interest to the readers.

This topic is where I will post links to various economic articles, for those that find them interesting. If you want to read (or post) articles about the unfolding debaucle, this is the place to look. If you are a short-term daytrader or swing trader and have zero interest in the economy, you can now just read Jim's Thoughts and not have to wade through this type of dicussion.

At best I think this material only has a direct effect on longer-term plays, the bigger swings that make up the major legs of the bull and bear markets. I follow this stuff for that reason, and because I want to have a handle on things, if that is even possible in this era of lies and deception, so that I can make decisions on life issues.

For example, as I posted in the commentary on the website and discussed with many people well in advance, this was something that wasn't hard to see coming. I saw many people who told me as late as Oct 2007 that 'this thing is about to 'break out' to the upside, and that Dow 20,000, and then much higher, was 'just around the corner' '. The type of articles I am posting discuss the type of information that helped me form the viewpoints I had back then.

If this is far from over, as I suspect, we are in a similar postion now as back then. With the rally that is unfolding right now the talk is the bull is back, the bottom is in, and we are set. I'm not so sure. So, I try to weigh up all the factors and not get too sucked in by the hype. To that end, I will post things here I find interesting.

My prescience sometimes scares me. I was talking to my better half just the other day, and I told her how the post office is going to have to lay off a lot of people. I was basing this on hearing they will be closing about 3,700 offices (including my local one), and going to mail delivery only three days a week, from the current six days (which was to become five soon). This, and what I was hearing locally about how low traffic is nowadays.

She quickly pointed out they are legally bound not to lay people off (until at least 2015). I told her they would go to congress and override that, watch and see. Or some type of executive order, all based on a national (financial) emergency. So, it turns out the USPS will be insolvent by next month, and guess what? Well, read the article. Amazing the things I see that sound insane, and how people look at me like I have three heads and lobsters crawling out of my ears, and then they come to pass, or they try to come to pass. Just amazing.

This spells it out nicely for those that don't understand why I am so infuriated all the time:

This is the kind of stuff that got us in to this mess, and keeps kicking the can down the road. Now another iteration that only has the downside of more inflation for you and I at the gas pump, the store, in our utility and insurance bills, etc. Sounds good.

So, they played a game on us by not announcing the next big move at Jackson Hole, but it's coming, we already know that. It can never stop. And I mean never. We will see this sick madness until the entire system collapses, as I have said for years now. Like those tire spikes that keep you from going the wrong way in a parking garage, this is a one way street.

'And the train, it won't stop going, no way to slow down...
No way to slow down...
No way to slow down...
No way to slow down...
No way to slow down...
No way to slow down...'

The biggest issue for me is that the argument for deflation is just as good as the one for hyperinflation. And it gets worse, because there aren't just two things that can happen, there are hundreds, even thousands of variations of each scenario, and each one requires a bit different of a solution. Otherwise I'd be thinking just split one's resources 50-50 for each case, accept one has already lost half of one's resources, but at least one would still have half. But, I think each 'twist' could leave a basic plan devastated.

There seems to be so many ways this could play out, and no real way to even make a good educated guess as to which way it will be, that it does seem hopeless. All I 'know' is that it is coming, and it is going to be devastation and ruination on a scale unimaginable to us fat, happy Americans. And perhaps 99% of Americans (and Europeans) will say they never saw it coming, how can this be happening, and so on. We're 'dead meat'.

I forgot, I do have another hero to go with Ron Paul and David Stockman, and that's Nigel Farage. Here's his latest:
