I decided to split off my postings of economic links from Jim's Thoughts, so that I can get that topic back to what it was intended to be, a place for me to post trading ideas and thoughts I had that I felt could be of interest to the readers.
This topic is where I will post links to various economic articles, for those that find them interesting. If you want to read (or post) articles about the unfolding debaucle, this is the place to look. If you are a short-term daytrader or swing trader and have zero interest in the economy, you can now just read Jim's Thoughts and not have to wade through this type of dicussion.
At best I think this material only has a direct effect on longer-term plays, the bigger swings that make up the major legs of the bull and bear markets. I follow this stuff for that reason, and because I want to have a handle on things, if that is even possible in this era of lies and deception, so that I can make decisions on life issues.
For example, as I posted in the commentary on the website and discussed with many people well in advance, this was something that wasn't hard to see coming. I saw many people who told me as late as Oct 2007 that 'this thing is about to 'break out' to the upside, and that Dow 20,000, and then much higher, was 'just around the corner' '. The type of articles I am posting discuss the type of information that helped me form the viewpoints I had back then.
If this is far from over, as I suspect, we are in a similar postion now as back then. With the rally that is unfolding right now the talk is the bull is back, the bottom is in, and we are set. I'm not so sure. So, I try to weigh up all the factors and not get too sucked in by the hype. To that end, I will post things here I find interesting.

Now, don't everyone get all depressed or anything. I post these economic links for those that want to read up and be informed as to 'the other side' of the story that you won't get on the idiot box. If the first guy is right (and everything I see says what he points out should come to pass if the truth was truly discounted, but you know how they always have a way to postpone things and make them worse later), we are really headed for some tough times.

And for this link, scroll down to the May 17, 2009 entry at 11:30 AM and look at that chart and read the paragraph that goes with it. Wow-ch.

Based on the way that link looks to me, those posts may rotate back in time, so this link may not work for very long. If you look at this and the link doesn't have the date mentioned, just search the archive for the above date and time.

I'm still looking for someone to explain to me why these are bull conditions? Why the market thinks stocks should be priced much higher? Why Birinyi's S&P 1,700 is 'fair value'? Is it because the dollar is worth less than the paper it is printed on, so the market is really just repricing the assets in cheaper dollars? Ah, but if so, the opposite should be true for the currencies that are strengthening here like crazy against the dollar. And, the funny thing is, the 'news' is now all about how the Eurozone is doing great now, the stimulus can basically end, no more measures are needed, and the Euro is (as well it should be) strengthening against the poor, weak, worthless dollar.
Yeah, except the evidence as I see it (read the article and the previous ones from Maudlin I posted) implies the Eurozone is in far more trouble than the U.S., and is way, way behind the curve. The biggest mystery to me in everything that has unfolded to date is why the Euro isn't well below parity. I'm not saying the dollar isn't a worthless POS, only that in my opinion, the evidence says the Euro is an even bigger worthless POS. It's amazing what can be done with manipulation, not only of currencies and markets, but with the press. Just my take. As I said before, I just can't imagine how we will come out of this (or go through this) with any semblance to anything we've come to know. But they are trying to find a way to put this off for a few years and tell us everything is rosy, so who knows. In other words, same old, same old...

The information I read (and for the most part believe is accurate) always seem to be diametrically opposed to what I hear from the 'green shoots' bubbleheads on the idiot box:

Make sure you read the FT's article he links to, also.

This is a good read every month. They are spot on with what I'm seeing around town with wage, benefit and job reductions across the board.

It may be quite some time before the consumer is back with any real spending to fuel an economic recovery.

Here's a very simplified look at this, but very on target, I feel. Note how the two 'choices' are really choices between hitting the 'middle class' or the elite.

I keep coming back to we are just so dead. What's the solution that I'm not thinking of so that this all doesn't play out? Maybe there isn't one, just as it seems...

Well, I have resigned myself to the very real possibility that this being the biggest manipulation in history nothing further to the downside will happen. Not that I want people to get hurt more (the ones who should get hurt seemingly never do anyways. I just think we may witness a completely unprecedented event here, something that defies all logic.

I forgot, I do have another hero to go with Ron Paul and David Stockman, and that's Nigel Farage. Here's his latest:
